Therapy for Men in Midlife

Midlife can bring changes that many men never expected.

You may have built a career, raised a family, maintained relationships, handled responsibilities, and generally been the person others could count on. Yet somewhere along the way, something may have changed. Work may no longer feel meaningful. A marriage or relationship may be struggling or ending. Children grow up and leave home. Retirement may be approaching. Health concerns, aging parents, grief, loneliness, or questions about what comes next can begin to take on greater importance.

Sometimes there isn't an obvious crisis at all. Life simply doesn't feel the way it used to.

Therapy for Men Facing Change, Stress, and Loss of Direction

Men often come to therapy because the strategies that worked for them earlier in life aren't working as well anymore. You may be experiencing:

  • Anxiety, depression, or persistent stress
  • Burnout or loss of motivation
  • Divorce, separation, or relationship problems
  • Career changes, retirement, or uncertainty about work
  • Grief and loss
  • Health concerns or the realities of aging
  • Loneliness or disconnection
  • Changes in sexuality or intimate relationships
  • Difficulty adjusting to children leaving home
  • Questions about identity, meaning, or purpose
  • A sense that you should be happier than you actually are

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Sometimes the issue is simply recognizing that the next part of life requires a different way of thinking about yourself and what matters to you.

A Practical and Individualized Approach

My approach to therapy is practical, collaborative, and individualized. Depending on what you are dealing with, our work may draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), insight-oriented therapy, and deeper exploration of longstanding patterns, relationships, and life experiences.

The objective isn't simply to talk about problems. We work to understand what's actually happening, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop useful ways of responding to the challenges in front of you.

For some men, that means reducing anxiety or depression. For others, it means navigating a relationship or career transition. And for others, the work becomes a deeper examination of identity, purpose, relationships, and how they want to live the next chapter of their lives.
